Christopher Hart: Creative Visionary and Photographer

#CreativeToWatch

Christopher Hart is a Photographer based in NY.

What do you do?

I’m a Brooklyn based multidisciplinary artist. I tell stories with all the art forms I explore like modeling, photography, and acting.

What inspires you?

Exploration inspires me. I believe everyone (especially black people) need to see more of themselves and the world. The possibilities are endless yet we bind ourselves to societies expectations and perceived limitations.  Exploration is important for growth which is necessary for the human experience.

Favorite project you’ve worked on?

If you know me then you know that anything new I create becomes my favorite project. It keeps me looking forward instead of looking back.

How do you break out of a creative funk?

I usually break out of a creative funk by getting rest. Sometimes I can drown myself in creation and I just need to be still. When I give myself a chance to breathe, I feel alive. I create my best work when I’m living.

What’s some creative advice you live by?

“You can do no wrong”. Art is subjective and the faster you realize that , the easier it is to experiment and trust your gut.

Who would your dream creative collaboration include?

My dream collaboration within myself would be a time where I’m acting and photographing on the same movie set.  Collaborating with fashion brands would be where I’m modeling with one of the largest black owned brands with a set full of my friends. Possibly with Theophilio or Pyer Moss.

What are your favorite creative outlets outside of your job?

My other creative outlet is my poetry. I believe I will never have a chance to say enough with my words from my lips but when I put words to paper things start to add up.

An artist or creative that is really inspiring you right now ?

The most inspiring creative to me right now is Tschabalala Self. She gave me an opportunity to act in her first play and it awakened a new side of creation within me. I’m still trying to figure out what awakened but I know something is new.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about living. For all I know, this is my only chance at this life. I got to make this thang’ count.

If you could change one thing about the creative industry you’re in what would it be?

I would give black creatives more opportunities to be themselves. Most often, when black creatives are hired, we have to fit into a scope within where we are liked instead of who they actually are. It perpetuates an identity crisis atop of an already existing one.

Are there any other creatives in NYC you’d like to shout out?

I’d like to shoutout PhotoDom, Nas’ Tassia Simpson, Mark Clennon, Jarrod Anderson, Soouizz, Tarrel Alvin McCraney, Adrienne Raquel, Rashida Zagon, Goblin, Tyler Henry, and Breanna Nichelle and so much more.
