Diane Choi: Photographer

#CreativeToWatch

Diane Choi is a Photographer based in NY.

What do you do?

I'm a freelance photographer & a studio assistant at Slate Studios.

What is your favorite spot in NYC?

Brooklyn, always. My favorite place to unwind, think and take deep breaths is The Brooklyn Bridge Park.

What inspires you?

The ordinary day to day. It's the small things like my morning coffee routine, a good conversation, great films and the way light touches everything.

What's some creative advice you live by?

Keeping humility close and doing the hard work when no one is watching you.

Being an artist means being fully human, everything I create is a cultivation of who I am and who I am becoming.

What are your favorite creative outlets outside of photography?

Nature & poetry. Anything I can put my hands to — whether that's pen to paper, cooking or building things. It's a rhythm of rest I prioritize just as much as my photography.

An artist or creative that is really inspiring you right now?

민현우 (Min Hyunwoo) — ever since I saw his work "Hope" for Vogue Korea, I was able to connect with the honesty and heritage of our Korean grandmothers with my own thesis work I've done about my grandmother. My family legacy and my Korean heritage are the roots I pull inspiration from.
